Dr. Xuan-Son (Sonny) Vu is a leading expert in Privacy-Aware Machine Learning (ML) and Natural Language Processing (NLP). He is an Assistant Professor at Lund University’s RSS Lab and the founder of DeepTensor AB. He earned his Ph.D. in Privacy-Aware ML from Umeå University and has collaborated with institutions such as TU Darmstadt and Kyungpook National University.
Dr. Vu’s research focuses on secure, knowledge-driven AI systems, emphasizing the critical role of high-quality data in AI innovation. His work has earned multiple Best Paper awards, including from CICLING and the Korea Information Processing Society. He leads major research projects, including serving as Co-PI on a $1.7 million Swedish Research Council grant focused on Privacy-Preserving NLP. Beyond academia, he has co-founded key AI initiatives, including DeepTensor.AI, AIcovidVN, AIHUB.ML, and MLOpsVN, all dedicated to leveraging AI for social good and advancing best practices in ML operations.
As CTO of WASP Media & Language Arena, Dr. Vu bridges academia and industry, mentors students worldwide, and chairs leading conferences such as IEEE BigDataService. Guided by his belief that “Quality is never an accident; it is the result of intelligent effort,” he is committed to building robust AI applications that address real-world challenges.
When Dr. Hung Tran proposed AI for Vietnam Foundation, Dr. Vu recognized a valuable opportunity to broaden his contributions. His experience with AIcovidVN and AIHUB.ML highlighted Vietnam’s AI potential and challenges, while MLOpsVN demonstrated the growing demand for AI education. Recognizing the need for a structured approach to AI talent development, he joined AI for Vietnam to help democratize AI education and empower Vietnam’s next generation of AI leaders.
